This raw (sheng) pu-erh comes from the Mengku Iceland Tea Garden in Shuangjiang County, Yunnan, and has been aged for two full decades. Known in Chinese as Bingdao (冰岛茶), Iceland tea ranks among the most famous and most sought-after teas of Yunnan, with written records reaching back to the Ming Dynasty, before 1485. The small growing village sits in isolation at 2, 000 meters above sea level along the historic Ancient Tea-Horse Road, once a busy trade route.

The leaf is harvested from large, wild ancient tea trees more than 100 years old and is supplied as whole, unbroken, twisted large leaves. Mengku leaves are recognized for their dark green color, soft texture and a notably strong, distinctive fragrance. Twenty years of careful aging have tamed the youthful intensity typical of raw pu-erh, leaving a smooth, complex and rewarding tea. The cup opens with a light woodsy aroma before shifting into smoky, floral richness, and it develops fully after the first infusion, showing new layers with each steep.
