Description
Jade Gyokuro is a very unique green tea that originates from En Shi, in Hubei province. It is the only famous Chinese green tea that is processed using steam deactivation entirely. The leaves are reminiscent of a Japanese gyokuro or sencha; though even with the steam processing method an unique appearance, this remains quite Chinese in character. This tea also has a long history. En Shi City has produced tea since the Tang Dynasty (618-907). History suggests that this style of tea was first created during Emperor Kang Xi's reign. In 1945, Jade Gyokuro was introduced to Japan and it was so well accepted that it was called “Chinese Gyokuro”. Gyrokuro is shade-grown, which increases the levels of chlorophyll in the leaf- this adds depth, flavor, color, and complexity to the tea, and significantly increases its nutritional content as well. Our Jade Gyokuro has a silky mouthfeel, is “buttery”, full-flavored, with a characteristically Chinese green tea flair.
