Jin Jun Mei Lapsang Golden Eyebrow – Rare Wuyi Mountain Smoked Black Tea

Jin Jun Mei Lapsang Golden Eyebrow is considered one of the rarest Lapsang (smoked) Chinese black teas, produced to very high standards to ensure consistency and fine quality. It unites the prized golden buds of Jin Jun Mei with the gentle, aromatic smokiness of traditional Lapsang. For specialty tea shops and premium retailers, it offers a luxury smoked tea that is entirely different from ordinary Lapsang Souchong.

The tea comes from a rare wild tea variety growing at high altitude in China's Wuyi Mountains. It is picked before Qing Ming, the early-April festival that marks the finest spring harvest, and gathering it is highly labor-intensive, with considerable pride and care invested in this craft production. The leaves are slender, tightly curled and gold-flecked, and their heady smoked aroma gives the tea an intriguing, mysterious quality. The aroma is refined smoke. The liquor is golden, like maple syrup, and the flavor is rich with cocoa, honey, baked goods and molasses, ending with a hint of honeysuckle and no bitterness at all. Rather than dominating, the smoke gently frames a sweet, pastry-like cup, making this smoked tea at its most refined. A gaiwan and multiple infusions are recommended to show how the smoke and sweetness evolve with each steep. It is best served plain and pairs with dark chocolate and aged cheese, supporting premium tasting menus.
