Description
Gyokuro Gokou – Wholesale Extended-Shade Ichibancha Gyokuro from KyotoGyokuro Gokou is a first-harvest (ichibancha) Japanese gyokuro made from the Gokou cultivar, which was developed and is grown in Kyoto, Japan. Gyokuro, meaning "Jade Dew, " is a fine Japanese green tea shaded before picking, which naturally raises chlorophyll levels in the leaf and yields a notably deep, sweet cup. This lot was shaded for an extended 30 days instead of the standard 20, intensifying both its umami and its color. Processing is minimal and the leaf is largely unsorted, so it contains some smaller leaf particles. This style is known as aracha gyokuro, or farmer's-style gyokuro, and it has become increasingly popular in recent years because it stays close to its origin rather than being heavily processed, blended and sorted. The extended shading also raises natural L-theanine, associated with calm, focused energy. In the cup it shows a vibrant jade liquor, balanced, buttery umami, fresh-cut grass accents and a light seaweed and kelp feel, finishing smooth, rich and savory. It re-steeps well across several infusions and pairs with delicate Japanese sweets or sashimi. Product Profile
